On Canada Day, we celebrate the history, rich cultures, and shared values that bring people across our country together. It is also a meaningful time for families, neighbours, and communities to gather, reflect, and strengthen the bonds that support us through every stage of life.
As Canada’s population ages, more seniors and families are being touched by dementia. Rising diagnoses remind us that brain health is a shared priority—and that awareness, prevention, and early recognition can make a real difference.
This Canada Day, let’s encourage the seniors in our lives to stay socially connected, physically active, mentally engaged, and supported in healthy daily routines. Let’s also pay attention to changes in memory, communication, problem-solving, mood, or daily functioning—and speak with a health professional when something feels different.
Hope for Dementia’s online resource centre offers helpful information for individuals, families, caregivers, and communities who want to better understand dementia, reduce risk, and support seniors with dignity and compassion. Together, we can celebrate Canada’s past, care for one another in the present, and build a healthier, more dementia-aware future.
Happy Canada Day!
