On May 13th, Hope for Dementia launched a brand new program – Aide-Mémoire-Able.
The program was launched as a pilot project in partnership with La Boîte à souvenirs, at Manoir du Casson in Saint-Laurent.
Aiming to promote intergenerational learning and mentorship, the project includes a series of five workshops and a final event. Ten seniors share meaningful memories from different stages of their lives with young volunteers.
Through these workshops, participants will engage in a stimulating experience, guided by reflective questions, note writing, and interviews. Each senior’s personal story will then be transformed into a life story book, to be revealed at a special event attended by their families and friends.
More than just a creative exercise, the project will offer an opportunity to combat isolation, spark memory recall, and nurture a sense of accomplishment in the elderly. At the same time, it will help weave meaningful bonds across generations, preserving each individual’s story for years.
The project is partially funded by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) under the New Horizons for Seniors’ Program.
