On the 21st of June we celebrate International Yoga Day. We would like to make special mention of our new project, Move for a Healthy Mind, which was launched on May 24, 2024.
This 8-month project was created to encourage elderly people to exercise on a daily basis by attending classes led by a certified trainer and following at-home exercise videos. Physical activity is very important as it helps maintain a healthy body and mind and is also one of the 12 modifiable risk factors of dementia.
Participation is free of cost and includes exercise equipment. Forty people from two seniors’ residences currently participate in Move for a Healthy Mind, which is funded in part by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) New Horizons for Seniors Program.
