Hope for Dementia’s Intergenerational Learning Program is a hit! Digital learning, social interaction, and mentorship help seniors reduce their risk of cognitive decline…and benefit today’s youth, who will be tomorrow’s caregivers.
Here’s what the Program Lead in YMCA Halifax/Dartmouth had to say:
“Youth supported seniors in exploring technology by helping them navigate apps of their choice, such as Gmail, Duolingo, WhatsApp, and YouTube.
Seniors practiced typing on tablets and became more comfortable using touchscreens, while youth provided patient, step-by-step guidance.
The sessions also had a fun side, as the youth introduced seniors to mobile games, sparking laughter and lighthearted competition.
This activity not only built digital confidence for the seniors but also created a sense of mentorship and pride for the youth as they shared their knowledge and skills.”

The expansion of the Intergenerational Learning Program was made possible through the generous support of iA Financial Group.
